Give your computer a facelift and prevent unexpected problems with this extraordinarily comprehensive utility system. Never worry about viruses, excess and unnecessary files, or backing up your hard drive again! Norton SystemWorks is an all-inclusive and extensive protection system that not only safeguards your important information, but essentially runs itself as well.

Installation took 15 minutes from start to finish, including the time it took to restart Windows and to initialize the program. Not bad, given the large number of features and functions included in Norton SystemWorks. In fact, keeping in mind the extensive content, we found the installation to be much easier than anticipated.

New features of Norton SystemWorks 2001 include updated versions of Norton SystemWorks 2001 and Norton AntiVirus 2001. SystemWorks includes a feature entitled one-button checkup, an initial checkup that runs through your computer's entire system, checking it for errors. Once complete, SystemWorks prompts the user to begin fixes for all found errors. AntiVirus is Norton's classic program that protects personal computers from the myriad of viruses lurking on the Web. The software includes a new automatic live update feature that checks for new viruses while you're online, thus avoiding human error and forgetfulness.

Whether you are looking to protect a pristine, brand-new personal computer, disinfect your current machine, or enhance the performance of a sluggish and crowded hard drive, Norton SystemWorks has everything you could ever need. All of its features complement each other to create a truly powerful utility package. --Kendra Hayden

Norton SystemWorks 2001 gives you everything you need in one easy-to-use suite. The new one-button checkup makes system maintenance as easy as the click of a mouse. Norton AntiVirus 2001 is a leading antivirus software. Norton Utilities 2001 optimizes your PC's performance and solves problems easily. Norton CleanSweep 2001 removes unneeded programs and files. Norton WebServices--powered by ZDNet Updates--and Symantec Web Partners offer convenient online services. Now Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Millennium Edition users can also enjoy the benefits of Norton SystemWorks.

This has Norton AntiVirus, Utilities, CleanSweep, and Web Services for Windows 2000, NT, Me, 98, and 95. [This was the last version for Win95.] The "User's Guide" has 13 chapters in 3 sections to describe the applications. Chapters 8 and 9 only apply to the "Professional Edition". Chapter 1 tells how to install NSW. You must first uninstall any previous version of Norton Utilities, Norton Crashguard, CleanSweep, Norton AntiVirus, or any other antivirus program on your system (p.15). You should create the Emergency disks on a different computer, one that has no problems. You can run the Emergency Disks after booting from the CD.

Chapter 2 introduces the programs and their features. WinDoctor can remove the error that comes from trying to load a now missing program. Disk Doctor checks the integrity of your hard drive. System Doctor monitors and analyzes various parts of your computer. System Information provides detailed information about your computer. File Compare examines the differences between two versions of a file. Norton Diagnostics provides a complete hardware checkup to identify problems quickly. NAV protects and detects harmful viruses. CleanSweep manages programs on your computer (p.35). Chapter 3 tells how to create rescue disks with critical information about your computer; it needs updating to match your configuration. Chapter 4 explains how to respond to Norton System Works alerts. Chapter 5 discusses the use of Norton Utilities to solve computer problems. This is the most important chapter in normal operations.

Chapter 6 explains the types of viruses and how NAV protects against them. It tells how to maintain full-time protection. Norton CleanSweep can clean out unused files (Fast & Safe Cleanup), such as Internet buildup, browser cache, and unused programs (Uninstall Wizard). The Backup Wizard creates a compressed backup file of a program. The Move Wizard moves a program to another drive or folder on the same computer. Chapter 8 explains how to use WinFax Basic; it allows your computer to send and receive facsimile transmissions (with a suitable modem). Norton Ghost creates disk images (Chapter 9). It can clone an entire disk, one or more partitions, and create image files.

Section 3 covers problems and emergency procedures. These apply to Windows 95, 98, and Me. Flow charts describe the operations (Chapter 10). Chapter 11 describes emergency procedures; this is the most detailed chapter. You should read all these pages and take notes. They recommend unerasing files, testing for disk problems, and creating and maintaining a Rescue Disk set. Chapter 12 tells what to do when a virus is found; there are three types of alerts. If an infected file cannot be repaired it can be quarantined or deleted. Troubleshooting the most frequent problems is covered in Chapter 13. [I hope you never have to use Section 3.]
It's not like we had much choice !2003-10-215 / 5
Whether it's a pc or a mac, symantec always has a decent software package.

In the mac world, there isn't many utility packages to choose from.

BEWARE: I believe it was OS 8.6 and/or OS9 that would NOT work with systemworks 1.0. Could cause drive corruption.
    (You needed systemworks 2.0)
I bought this package and gave it to the end user.
I warned him about only using it as directed on the package.
Well, naturally he used it with the wrong Mac OS and lost some data.
BUT THAT WAS NOT THE SOFTWARE'S FAULT !

A good, all around utility package.

    Thumbs up !

Version 1.0 is average at best and this is also only able to run in OS 9 or lower. It does not run natively in OS X, but they have come out with a 2.0 version. The 1.0 version does have good optimization and defragmenting properties, but the 2.0 version has included Alsoft's Disk Warrior. Makes one wonder why Symantec would share the spotlight with another software company. I know why but will remain silent at this time...
    How did I cope without Systemworks!!!2001-12-285 / 5
I bought Norton Systemworks after suspecting I had downloaded a virus on my Mac. I had never used the product (or any other like it) before, so I was pleased that it was user friendly and extremely efficient. I ran both Antivirus and Utilities (both included in the price) to check my system for bugs and general "bad things" and within 2 hours, my Mac was back to its old self.

I am impressed by the wealth and versatility of all the other programms that are included on the CD-ROM (like Aladdin Spring Clean and Dantz Retrospect). Similar to the flagship programmes, they are easy to use, easy to install and set-up, and most importantly they work well.

I would reccommend Norton Systemworks Macintosh for anybody who is having problems with their Mac, or for people who want that extra peice of mind. My only problem is that I wish I had bought it sooner, then my Mac might not have kept crashing orignally.

Fully deserves the 5 star award.

Classic Norton: easy to use and effective.2000-12-105 / 5
SystemWorks for Macintosh combines Norton Utilities with Norton Anti-Virus, Aladin Clean Sweep, and Datz Retrospect. The Norton suite installs effortlessly (easier then NAV for PC in my experience), you install Clean Sweep and Retrospect seperately off the same disk. SystemWorks has the familiar Symantec features: control panels (the Norton products can all be accessed through a main panel), and live update. A new to me feature is that when (for example) you run "software update" NAV will detect it and ask you if you want to suspend auto-protect while you're installing software. I happen to like Norton products and have had good luck with them, this product for Mac is no exception. I think Norton SystemWorks is a must have for any Mac home user.
